Gym Rules & Policies

Welcome to Big Island Bouldering! By entering our facility, participating in activities, or purchasing a membership or program, you agree to abide by the following gym rules and policies. These guidelines help us keep our community inclusive and fun for climbers of all ages and experience levels.

1. Gym Policies

1.1 General Facility Policies

  • All participants must complete a valid waiver before entering the climbing areas.

  • Climbers under 18 must have a waiver completed by a parent or legal guardian.

  • All guests must check in at the front desk upon arrival.

  • Proper climbing shoes are required on the wall; street shoes are not permitted.

  • No climbing shoes in bathrooms.

  • Food and beverages must stay off the padded flooring.

  • No alcohol, drugs, or intoxicants are allowed in the facility.

  • Always respect staff instructions.

  • Be kind, inclusive, and supportive. Big Island is a community space.

1.2 Safety Policies

  • Climbing is inherently dangerous. Padded mats only mitigate risk. You assume all risk.

  • Holds can spin, move, or break. Report issues immediately.

  • Do not walk or stand under climbers.

  • Keep landing zones clear of bags, water bottles, and personal items.

  • Downclimb when possible; use downclimb jugs and other holds.

  • Locate red downclimb jugs before climbing.

  • Children must be supervised by an adult at all times unless participating in a Big Island Bouldering-staffed program.

 

1.3 Youth Policies

  • Children under 14 must be actively supervised by an adult at all times. Maximum of 2 children per adult. Adults should stay engaged and nearby, especially in climbing areas.

  • Running, tag, and horseplay are not permitted.

  • Youth must follow all posted rules and staff instructions.

2. Rules of the Gym

2.1 Climbing Rules

  • One climber per wall section at a time.

  • Do not alter or modify holds, volumes, or wall features.

  • Respect route setting tape and grading systems.

  • No top-outs in the main gym; never go over the walls.

2.2 Conduct Rules

  • Harassment, discrimination, or unsafe behavior will not be tolerated.

  • Big Island Bouldering reserves the right to revoke access for any behavior that endangers others or disrupts the community environment.

3. Liability & Assumption of Risk

Climbing is an inherently risky activity. By entering the facility or participating in any activity, you acknowledge and accept the risks associated with bouldering, fitness training, and movement-based activities. All participants must sign a liability waiver before climbing.

4. Privacy Policy

Big Island Bouldering collects basic personal information for membership management, communication, and safety purposes. We do not sell or share personal information with third parties except as required for essential business operations. See our privacy policy for additional information.

5. Changes to Policies

Big Island Bouldering may update these terms and policies at any time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised “Last Updated” date.
